“We were immediately sold on JBoss by their superior performance under heavy loads, the relative ease in porting over WebLogic applications, and the support we received from JBoss as we needed it”

Project Overview: Initially began as part of La Quinta’s plan to migrate their Middle Tier from commercial software to open source. The project included porting existing Java/J2EE objects running on BEA WebLogic 6.1 SP2 and Web Services running on Apache Axis to JBoss Application Server 3.2.3. The total project took a total of 14 man weeks to complete.
Challenge:
- Eliminate future software license and reduce support costs
- Best of breed technology to ensure excellent performance for their customers
- Ability to port existing WebLogic applications quickly and cost-effectively
Solution:
- JBoss Application Server and Apache Tomcat
- JBoss Inc. Professional Support for both JBoss AS and Tomcat
- JBoss for Advanced J2EE Developer Training Course
- JBoss Documentation
Results:
- Porting process was completed flawlessly in under 14 man weeks with help from JBoss support staff
- Dramatic increase in performance; certain application response times dropped from over six seconds to under one second.
- Noticeable performance enhancements leading to improved customer satisfaction with online reservation system
- Decline in server utilization from 90%+ with WebLogic to under 60% with JBoss AS
- Significant cost savings across hardware, software licenses, and support services.
