norisbank

“norisbank benefits from JBoss’s Professional Open Source approach, its flexibility, scalability, and lower costs, and intends to continue to develop the use of Open Source solutions within its mission-critical environment.”

-Francis Pouatcha - norisbank AG Project Leader .

Company Overview: norisbank is one of the leading providers of installment credit in Germany.

Challenge:

  • norisbank is a specialist consumer bank and has a strong position in the German consumer lending market. It is one of the most profitable banks in the domestic market, and one of the leading providers of installment credit in Germany. For their mission-critical environment, norisbank needed an end-to-end automation platform that would drive its credit life cycle process.
  • norisbank needed a scalable solution, that allowed concurrent machine-based credit decisions, and the application built to handle up to 100’000 parallel transactions.
  • The web based applications, enabling data gathering and combination from different data sources, all were to be built on open source software.
  • norisbank needed to implement an instance based, highly flexible and externally configurable access control module which had to scale linearly (independently of the number of people using the system), together with a service which was not burdened by the entire EJB-Call-Stack.

Solution:

  • A set of open source software built around the JBoss Application Server with Web layer, Persistence: CMP and Apache OJB-mixed.
  • Using JBoss Mbeans, norisbank could implement and deploy proper system services which were not based on EJB.
  • 16 online Servers, 2 batch servers.

Results:

  • A completely new system built within 9 months (from initial requirement engineering to the first real mortgage application with money transfer).
  • A highly scalable platform that simplifies the scalability of the business: e.g. no significant performance loss after integrating a further 785 financial institutions with about 11,200 agencies and 31,000 registered users.
  • “Great” and “encouraging” support services received from JBoss.
